Student Showcase

The girl who 'souled' the world (Reported by MGAW)

Joss Stone- Academy 2004

While the rest of your age group is fretting over GCSE coursework, wouldn't it be cool to meet Jack White and George Bush, be acclaimed across Europe and the US and attract the universal attention of the UK music press? In every teenager's dreams, yes? Except for Joss Stone, the new barefooted soul sensation, those dreams have been very, very real over the last few months as her fantastic album 'The Soul Sessions' has created media interest across the world.

Amid all this media frenzy, Bablake's Careers Department set out with the student editors of its new venture 'Showcase' to try and interview Joss, someone who really is standing out from the rest. I had seen Joss began her first headline tour at the Academy in Birmingham, so wrote to Relentless, her record company, asking for an interview. All was quiet until 24 hours before the gig when her Dad rang school and suggested we contact her manager, Brian Freshwater. He kindly put Lucy Hilditch and Sean Clothier on the guest list for the gig and with the help of Olivia Broadfield (Bablake's Joni Mitchell and soon to release her debut album on Baroque), we sat down and planned a set of questions for Joss.

Sean and Lucy will post a description of what happened next!

Whatever takes your literary fancy can appear here as a review in online print- it's your showcase!
