WOODY'S INSPIRATION!
DJ LEGEND and GENIUS:
John Peel- hours of brilliant new music brought to millions. Click here for John's BBC site
THE INSPIRATION Part 1:
The Carpenters!- Bizarre but true! It all started sitting in the back of my parents' car listening to the 'Goodbye to Love' on the Sunday charts and being blown away by the guitar fade out! Simple beginnings!.......
THE INSPIRATION Part 2:
Kraftwerk- the gods of techno, house, dance.......
WOODY'S ARTISTS OF 2005:
Jack Johnson and KT Tunstall
Chilled singer-songwriters with great voices. Surfing Jack has offered material for the most summery of evenings/ feelings while KT has the banter on stage and melodies on disc.
WOODY'S BAND OF 2005:
The Arctic Monkeys
Believe the hype! Released one of the best indie singles ever- 'Bet you look good on the dancefloor' and have a devoted set of fans weaned on music downloads from their website. Sheffield rocks!
WOODY'S BAND OF 2004:
Razorlight
Cannot wait to see them live on the NME Tour. 'Golden Touch', 'Vice', 'Stumble and fall' all hit the right musical spots as does the rest of their debut album 'Up all night'. Tremendous, heavy leanings to Television and Lou Reed.
WOODY'S BAND OF 2003:
Athlete
'Vehicles and animals' was an ever present on the CD player over the year and sleep with the sun beaming down at V in Chelmsford was made so relaxing as their set played. A new album is eagerly awaited.
WOODY'S 2ND BAND OF 2003:
Jet
Stunning on disc and live.
WOODY'S BAND OF 2002:
The White Stripes
(Sir) John Peel described them as a revelation and the most exciting thing since punk and maybe even Hendrix.......Anyone who saw them cover Dylan's 'Isis' and turn in a cracking version of 'Astro' at the Leeds Festival (August 2002) will understand the support for them. Regard as 'The New Carpenters'! Pork Scratchings, if the Strokes are kettle crisps!
WOODY'S SINGER OF 2002:
Gemma Hayes
WOODY'S MUSICAL PEDIGREE:
So I have confessed to the Carpenters. Other confessions should include Radio 1, Genesis 'Seconds Out', the Jam, The Sugarhill Gang, Dylan's 'Street Legal', Radio London's soul shows, the Smiths, Robert Cray, The House of Love, Sarah Records etc until 2001-2 when I was seduced by Radio 2. Old age struck and it was a case of all hail Jonathan Ross, Stuart Maconie, Bob Harris, Steve Wright, Janice the Long and the rest of the crew. Links with Radio 1 have not been severed as Mark and Lard, John Peel, Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley are still most worthy icons.
