Some ideas for using the Webwatch!

People have asked how to use this site with students since there is too much choice in certain sections. I am reluctant to rank sites as I don't feel I have the cheek (or even expertise) to do so! Below are some suggestions though- they are NOT model ideas!

General Use:

  • Extension research for a particular profession/ issue (e.g. Gap Year safety) via a specific set of sites.
  • A series of tutor lessons/ assemblies on each of the 5 main sections of the Webwatch- this works well for a full L6th/ Year 12 group or tutor set.
  • An A4 sheet or 2 listing the main sites you like or use, using as many or as few sections as you wish. [Pocket Webwatch]
  • For PSHE, you might want to investigate the sites in the Lifestyle- Adolescent Angst/ Campaigns, Charities and Issues sections.
  • Use 'Woody's Webwatch' as a hyperlink to complement your own targeted Careers site or select a few sites for links from your own pages.
  • A 5-10 minute 'Woody's Webwatch' assembly.
  • A presentation to 6th Form Tutors or Parents- you could put this together very easily: 10 min PowerPoint intro, 30- 40 mins surfing, 10 min feedback session. [I'm happy to help on this or even deliver it if you want Woody live in your school or college!]

Specific Sites:

  • Extension research for a particular profession/ issue via a specific site (or 2).
  • Key sites earmarked to enable individual students to stand out.

How do you use it? Let me know! Any work sheets you want to share would be most welcome too!
