WHO'S WOODY? [Picture]

  • A 60s child who never really forgave his parents for not producing him in time for arguably the most influential decade of British and American music! He has borne that hardship bravely and as long as he is surrounded by Radio 1 or 2, healthy satire, clutter, copies of NME, musical monthlies, a stash of newspapers, good food, the torture of supporting Leeds United, a notepad and a computer, Woody is vibrant. He’s a cheery, optimistic soul, passionately convinced that advisers and teachers need to embrace the internet, swallow their pride and let the students show them the advantages of new technology if they want to be true professionals.

  • A Classicist at heart, Woody's Careers Muse hatched in 1998 when appointed as Head of Careers at Bablake School. Since then, he has written some careers texts: he was co-author of a 6th Form Tutorial Guide with Michael Senior and produced 3 cheap and funky publications of his own: ‘We’ll Be In Touch- A Guide to Interview Technique’, ‘Job’s Worth- How to Stand Out from the Rest of the Field’ and ‘Woody’s Webwatch’. Revamps of these and a new text on Gap Years are planned, however with teaching and pastoral roles to fulfil and the additional role of school webmaster, a rampaging young family, a Careers Department site (www.2morrow-2day.com), Stretch (Bablake's student magazine) and the upkeep of Woody's Webwatch, spare time is not generous! No sleep is planned until retirement in 2024!

  • Woody is a regular workshop leader for CRAC and Cambridge University's Careers Diploma as well as being the first Careers adviser to be called upon by the Gap Year Company. He apologises in advance to those billeted near him at conferences who do not appreciate being serenaded by the strains of Jack Johnson, the White Stripes, Gemma Hayes, the Who or Kraftwerk in the early hours.

  • By all means, email Woody or telephone him (07968-263610), if you would like to talk about his writing and research into careers websites.
